TENN’s Health Innovation Programme brings decentralized renewable energy to underserved health facilities in Sierra Leone.
The Health Innovation Programme (HIP) strengthens primary healthcare services in off-grid and underserved communities through solar-powered solutions. By integrating decentralized renewable energy (DRE) into maternal and child health services, HIP supports improved care delivery, reduces maternal mortality, and empowers healthcare staff with reliable power.
These installations are not just numbers—they represent improved night-time deliveries, better health outcomes, and empowered communities.
In partnership with DOTO Health, TENN piloted smart ANC kits and the FETOMAX device at Mile 18 MCHP and York CHC. These kits, powered by portable solar, allow accurate ANC data entry, fetal health monitoring, and better risk detection through real-time digital tracking.
Each facility was selected based on need—remote access, high delivery rates, or lack of grid power. Installations included lighting, wiring, solar battery systems, and capacity training for maintenance.
